"Sibanye is a township-based, non profit, craft marketing body. Our mission is to provide market access for HIV infected and affected communities producing handmade crafts.

We are one of the few empowerment and development organisations with a successful history of delivering real value to township communities. Sibanye has now broadened its mission to provide support to other Community Based Organisations, as well as individual crafters, to enable them to benefit from our marketing and support services programme.

Community projects often share the same frustrations of having the neccessary expertise and time to develop and market their products successfully. Both craft producers and organisations require a focused environment for their products to be marketed and sold, not only in the Western Cape but throughout South Africa.

From the Xhosa expression "together, we are one", Sibanye was created in July 2004 out of a specific need identified at the City of Cape Town based initiative, MSAT ( Multi Sectoral Action Team), committed to treating HIV and TB related illnesses, to provide economic support to HIV infected and affected communities.
